Kia has unveiled a new iteration of its PV5 electric van designed specifically for wheelchair users equipped with the WAV system.
The PV5 WAV signifies ‘Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle’ and was created collaboratively with the experts from Motability Solutions, specializing in wheelchairs, powerchairs, and mobility scooters.
The van includes a side-access mechanism equipped with a ramp, enabling individuals using wheelchairs to enter securely from the sidewalk. Additionally, it has a third-row fold-up seat designed to facilitate access for both caregivers and people in wheelchairs entering through the side door.
Moreover, the PV5 WAV includes a wheelchair access ramp rated for up to 300kg situated on the curbside of the vehicle. It also comes equipped with a specialized wheelchair securing system designed to ensure passenger safety during transit.
Sangdae Kim, who serves as the executive vice president and leads the PBV division at Kia, stated: “The PV5 WAV goes beyond being merely a mode of transportation; it’s an entry point to autonomy and liberty for individuals facing mobility issues. Through the incorporation of advanced PBV technologies alongside meticulous design, we’re laying down pathways toward a future wherein all people have access to eco-friendly travel options. Our collaboration with Mobility Operations underscores our dedication to turning this aspiration into actuality.”
