Amazon is eliminating approximately 100 positions within its Devices & Services division, which encompasses products like the Alexa voice assistant, Echo smart speakers, Zoox autonomous taxis, and the Project Kuiper broadband satellite initiative.
This is part of an overarching industry pattern aimed at enhancing efficiency through workforce reductions, though the scale is considerably smaller compared to recent layoffs experienced by several of Amazon’s competitors.
The firm claims they are continuing to recruit for positions within Devices & Services, where numerous vacancies remain available.
As part of our continuous efforts to enhance the efficiency of our teams and programs, and to ensure better alignment with our product strategy, we have decided to phase out a limited number of positions,” stated an Amazon representative. “These choices are not taken lightly, and we remain dedicated to assisting impacted employees throughout this transition.
There wasn’t additional information provided, hence we remain unaware of the kinds of positions affected by these reductions or which particular groups within the Devices & Services division were involved.
The larger pattern of technology sector job cuts occurs as artificial intelligence transforms the field.
The modifications at Amazon are occurring as the firm
rolls out Alexa+
, the updated version of its voice assistant that employs generative AI for smoother conversations.
